Why see a psychologist?
Consultation with a psychologist involves detailed discussion of the issues concerning the client. In partnership with the client, the psychologist may:
Assess the effects of the problem on the clients life
Explore the behaviours, thoughts and emotions of the client
Help the client develop effective ways of managing and coping with the problem
Assist the client to establish changes that alleviate the presenting problem
Equip the client with the skills and strategies they need to prevent ill-health and other problems
Help the client to find more successful ways of handling everyday life issues
Psychologists deliver a range of non-drug therapies, techniques and strategies that have been rigorously researched and tested for effectiveness. The number of sessions required will depend on the complexity of the issues and the needs of the client. Many people will experience a significant improvement within one to six visits.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
We try to see new clients within one week of referral because we understand how much courage it takes to make the first contact with a psychologist. We take the initial contact from a client and so can answer their questions and provide reassurance if necessary. We are also available for questions from doctors who may wish to discuss the needs of their patients with us.
What are the consultation times?
We consult within normal business hours and also have some late night and Saturday morning appointments available.
What are the fees?
Fees are based on the duration of the session and are decided according to the situation of the client. All psychologists are registered with Medicare so that clients with a GP Mental Health Care Plan (item 2710) can receive a substantial rebate on their consultation fee from Medicare. Individuals with private health cover may receive a partial rebate of the fee on presentation of the invoice.
What is the Medicare rebate?
The Australian Government introduced new Medicare items for psychological treatment by registered psychologists in 2006. All the psychologists in our practice are able to provide our clients with the rebate from Medicare because we are all members of the Australian Psychological Society’s College of Clinical Psychologists. To be able to claim a Medicare rebate you must be provided with a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan by your general practitioner, psychiatrist or paediatrician.
Can I use my Private Health Insurance?
You can use your health insurance to pay for psychology services and it is useful to check to see what rebate you will receive. However, you cannot use your private health insurance and the Medicare rebates at the same time. You will need to decide whether you will use medicare or your private health insurance to pay for your consultation.
How long is the consultation session?
A consultation session usually takes one hour.
How do I make an appointment?

Where are you located?

Do I need a referral?
A doctor’s referral is not necessary if you wish to access the service. However, if you wish to receive the medicare rebate you will need to be referred by a general practitioner, paediatrician or psychiatrist who have completed a Mental Health Care Plan for you prior to your first appointment.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment is requested on the day of the appointment and you can pay with cash or credit card. If Medicare has your details we can process your payment so that your medicare rebate goes directly into your account. We also have a HICAPS machine which may allow you to claim a private health rebate instantly.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a cancellation policy of 24 hours notice as this allows us to reallocate the appointment time to someone else on the waiting list. The full fee is charged for less than 24hrs notice of cancellation and non-attendance at an appointment. However, we understand that sometimes there are extenuating circumstances and we take these into consideration.
